Season 1: Open source

Episodes:

I started this newsletter broadly. Wide open range allowed me to roam freely, exploring all themes, organizations of all kinds.

Container-less-ness is, of course, tricky and bursting with challenges. This time, however, it has been useful and has yielded in new information. I could not have arrived at this new-found knowledge before leaving the shorelines and launching into the vast void.

Truth is, after a few installments, I’ve found enough thematic resonance to start thinking in seasons. I mean seasons both as in TV. So I’ve decided to try it out, and pay heed to (the great) Robin Sloan and his advice:

An […] email newsletter ought to be divided into seasons, just like a TV show.

By betting on seasons, I’m placing a bet on a kind of thinking I call thunking. The word "thunk" is a programming term that means "a piece of code that does some delayed work".

Thunking my thinking in seasons means I can explore themes one at a time, hoping that a golden thread emerges in the process. I hope that, in turn, these golden threads become raw materials towards the process of weaving them together later on.

My hope is that this thunked weaving process contributes something meaningful to the art, science and magic of how we get organized towards better possibilities.

I’m starting with open source. We’ll see where this season goes.
